Ben Stein finally loses his NYT column. Felix Salmon, who has been calling for the NYT to fire Stein for almost 2 years, is obviously thrilled. Sadly, the official reason for his firing wasn't "gross incompetence" (although it could have and should have been). The official reason was his appearance in commercials for FreeScore, a deceitful company that charges people to look at their credit report (which you're entitled by federal law to see once a year for free, from each of the 3 credit reporting agencies). It's about time.
